I have been a full-time working artist since 1996. My lifelong joy in the wild places and their fragile creatures is the spirit of this work. My background in anthropology and the study of how evolutionary forces sculpt each living thing and it’s interaction with all other life is the intellectual source for this work. My obsession with restoring habitat that supports wildlife is the heart of this work.
My purpose is to capture and re-create natural moments and impressions, create in the viewer a sense of “being there”, reveal the extraordinary in the common rock, shell, stick, and provide a dignified and appropriate setting for the natural artifacts. This work combines the use of acrylics and natural materials from the environment: sand, rocks, driftwood, shells, feathers, bones, and fossils from the shores of the Lower Colorado River. Some of the work is created by applying layers of sand mixed with glue and water . The sand is sculpted into a variety of forms and sometimes painted. The background is painted with acrylics.
